The L.A. Report – Part 35

08-05-2024

Today was my last day working for L.A. County.  I’m a little sad, because I really liked my coworkers.  The system that was being developed to replace the mainframe system has finally been implemented, plus they have a limit of a year and a half for contractors, although my manager is trying to open a position on one of her other teams, but being government, I’m not holding my breath.  Six positions just opened up at UCLA (my previous client), too, so that’s a possibility.  I’ve also seen job openings for remote jobs in Salem, Oregon (obviously for the Oregon state government), so that’s another possibility.  Worst comes to worst, I can always retire – I turned 66 three days ago so I’d get my full Social Security in 8 months.  I’d rather do at least one more programming job, though.

In my report a year ago, I wrote that the total assessed value of all the property in L.A. County was 1.9 trillion dollars.  As of last month it now exceeds $2 trillion.

In my last report, I told you about my calf injury.  It’s totally healed now and I’m back up to 6 miles for my long run, including the mandatories (what the heck are they?).

I haven’t gotten any acting roles lately but I have had a few auditions:  https://www.jayblake.actor/videos/auditions.html

I already emailed my funny work story from March.  In case you didn’t see it, here it is again.

So, until next time, take care.  Maybe I’ll have new job news . . .
