Scanning Your Yearbook
We appreciate your help by scanning your
yearbook. This Web site would not be
possible without contributions from the public.
Your scans don’t have to be perfect but do your
best; remember: they could be seen by millions of viewers (not likely, but
possible).
Every scanner is slightly different but most have
the following settings: Specify that
you’re scanning a black and white
photograph (unless the photographs on the page are in color – then use color photograph) at 96 dpi). Crop it carefully so that you only get the
complete page. Save it on your hard
drive as a .jpg (or .jpeg, same
thing) with a quality of 84 (high). Some programs consider 12 to be high – use
whichever your system considers “high” quality.
Don’t use a number greater than 84, however, because the file sizes get
too big. Try to limit your file sizes to
less than 200K (kilobytes).
If you want to scan every page in your book, that
would be great. Otherwise, at least do
the senior class pictures. Please scan
the front cover of the book, too, changing your scanner setting to color photograph.
If there are handwritten notes on any of the pages,
we electronically erase the notes, trying our best not to alter the original
page.
Name each image as “pagexxx.jpg”,
where xxx is the page number (use page000.jpg for the cover).
After you have saved all your scans, e-mail them to
scans@yearbookviewer.com. In the body or subject of the e-mail, tell us
the
If your Internet provider has a limit to the size of
the e-mails you can send, feel free to break it up into several e-mails.
Let us know if it’s okay to show your name as the
contributor. And if you’d like us to put
your e-mail address on the page, let us know which address you want us to use. If you want to put your graduation year, too,
that’d be great.
We will add them to the system as soon as possible
but it may take awhile if we’re really busy.
If we have any questions we will send an e-mail to
the address from which your scans came.
Let us know if you want to be contacted at a different address.
If you have any questions, send an e-mail to help@yearbookviewer.com.
Thank you once again. We couldn’t do this without your help.
